I teach at Curry College, Milton MA and at The Cambridge Center for Adult
Education as well as running my own workshops from my office in Watertown,
MA.
The title of my course is The Therapeutic Uses of Writing, and is based
on 20 years of experience working with people using writing to explore
and understand their issues.
In this course I use my books as the set texts. The books are designed
to be used by individuals working alone as well as for those working in
groups. The chapters offer exploratory exercises and provide the necessary
context to allow the reader to understand what he or she has written.
If you have questions about the benefits of taking a class, check out
the
Why take a class? page.
We cannot have a successful dialogue with someone else until we have first
begun a dialogue with ourselves. This course utilizes revolutionary interactive
writing techniques and drawing exercises designed to raise self-awareness
and lead students, individually and in groups, to a better sense of who
they might be. As we move through the exercises we will begin to uncover
blocks to personal change, and also to liberate long-stifled creative
energy. Participants will be introduced to many writing exercises structured
around such topics as feelings, self-image, writing and dreams, overcoming
resistances, and much more. You will be asked to write a short commentary
paper at the end of each class. This is not a therapy group, and diaries
and journals will not be shared in class, but this course will give you
tools to further your own self-exploration. This instructor's book, The
Sanity Manual, will be used as a text.
